3/26/25
So, my 94 year old adopted ‘English Mum’ Sheila, A.K.A. “Mighty Mouse’, didn’t survive the effects of her fall. (The post dated 3/21/25, “Prayers, Please and True Friends” was about her.) 🕊
In 1979 the Charlie Daniels Band released their album “Million Mile Reflections”. On the back cover was Charlie Daniel’s heartfelt ode to his good buddy Ronnie Van Zant, who had been the lead singer of Lynyrd Skynyrd until his tragic death in an airplane accident in 1977.
When it became evident my beloved friend wasn’t going to be here much longer, this poem kept running through my mind.
With all due respect to the late Charlie Daniels, I reworked his ode a little to make it for my Mum; I hope that’s ok. His version is below Mighty Mouse’s.
Rewrite for Mighty Mouse
A cherished friendship, a heart returning;
an endless smile with laughter, learning.
A Mum to share in all the times,
a warm embrace and glass of wine.
Say it loud and let it ring -
that love is part of everything,
the future, present and the past,
soar on proud Mouse, you’re free at last.
(and can see clearly!)
- Pearls’ version
Charlie Daniel’s Original
A brief candle, both ends burning
An endless mile, a bus wheel turning
A friend to share a lonesome time
A handshake and a sip of wine.
Say it loud and let it ring
that we’re all part of everything
the future, present and the past,
Fly on proud Bird, you’re free at last.
You’re welcome in my house anytime, Sheila; I’m even gonna buy a bottle of red wine to lure you back to this realm for a visit. 🕊 2/21/1931 – 3/26/2025 Thank You God. †
“And Can See Clearly “
What a friend we have In Jesus!! Thank You Pearl for being my friend and making a difference for all
Well, thank you, MaryBeth, for your friendship and kind words. She loved you dearly, too.
Awe Pearl I am sorry for your loss. I just now seen this and did not know you had this loss when I texted you today. You said you were fine so I hope you are ok??
Thank you, Michelle, for caring. It depends on the moment; so grateful for my friends always though.
Love the sentiment. Many prayers for you and MIghty Mouse. May you meet again in this realm.
Thank you, Gail for your sympathy, prayers and friendship. Looking for her already and knowing Sheila, she won’t be subtle nor hard to notice when she ‘stops by’.
